Who We Are

Built by people who
actually do the work.

Fairfield Innovations is a locally owned landscape design and build company serving Austin and Central Texas. We don’t just design projects — we build them, from first plan to final detail.

Our Approach

We believe good work still matters.

Every finished project arrives at your door one small decision at a time. The spacing between plants. The grade of the drainage swale. The way a stone edge meets a bed line. None of it is visible when it's done correctly — and all of it fails when it isn't.

That's the part we're obsessed with. Not the finished photo. The process that earns it.

We don't cut corners because a shortcut saves an afternoon. We've seen what happens three seasons later when the details are wrong. So we do it right the first time, even when no one is checking.

“Quality isn’t something we add at the end.
It's built into every step, or it isn’t there at all.”

In the Field

We don’t manage projects from a distance.

Real projects don't run themselves. Soil conditions change. Site grades surprise you. Equipment hits something unexpected six inches down. The only way to handle those moments correctly is to understand construction at ground level — not from a truck window.

We work alongside our crews. That means we catch problems before they become costly. It means decisions get made by someone who knows what they're looking at. And it means your project doesn't stall waiting for a manager who's never picked up a shovel.

This is what being a builder means. Not managing a project. Being in it.

The Hidden Work

Details people never notice —
until they fail.

Most of the work that makes a project succeed happens before it's visible. The depth of a conduit run. The backing behind a wall panel. The slope of a drainage line. The connection inside a junction box that's now buried under two inches of mulch. None of it shows up in a finished photo — and all of it matters when the project is tested by time.

We build every part of a project as if we'll be back to stand behind it. Because we will be. We'd rather spend the time doing it right than spend it later explaining why something failed.

The best work disappears when it's done correctly. You shouldn't see it. You shouldn't think about it. It should just hold, season after season. That's the standard we bring to every project — not just the parts clients notice, but every part.

Design & Build Thinking

Every plant goes in the ground with a purpose.

A landscape isn't built for the day it's installed. It's built for three years from now, five years from now, when the plants have grown into their intended roles and the property looks the way it was always meant to look. That requires more than a planting plan. It requires understanding how each species behaves — how it grows, how it roots, how it responds to Central Texas summers.

We don't select plants because they're available or on sale or easy to source. We select them because they belong in the ground where we're putting them. The right species, in the right location, installed correctly. That's the only way a landscape pays off over time.

This is design-build thinking: knowing that every decision made at installation shapes what the property becomes. We take that seriously.

Commitment

The work doesn’t stop
when things get hard.

That photo isn’t staged. Our project manager sprained his ankle, put on a boot, and showed up to cut rebar. Not because it was required. Because the project had a schedule, the client was counting on us, and that’s what the day needed.

We’re not sharing this to impress anyone. We’re sharing it because it’s an honest picture of how we operate. When you hire Fairfield, you’re hiring people who take your project personally. Who feel responsible for it. Who show up — even when it would be easier not to.

That’s the standard. Not a policy. Not a value written on a website. Just what we actually do.

Working With Us Four things we’ll always do.

  1. You’ll always know where things stand.
  2. We show up when we say we will.
  3. The work is done right,
    not just done.
  4. If something isn’t right, we fix it.
Why We Exist

Built because we kept seeing good work done badly.

Fairfield started because the gap between what clients were promised and what they actually received kept being too wide. Not from dishonest companies, necessarily — but from ones that overstretched, undersupervised, and moved too fast.

Between our team, we bring 25 years of combined experience to every project. And in that time, the core of how we operate hasn’t changed: do the work ourselves, stay on the job, and don’t take on more than we can actually deliver. It’s not a growth strategy. It’s a quality strategy.

We’re not the biggest landscape company in Austin. We don’t want to be. What we want is to be the one that did your project right — and the one you call back when you’re ready for the next one.

The People

Who you’re actually working with.

David
Owner

David founded Fairfield because he believed a landscaping company could be run with the same care you’d put into your own yard. He’s on job sites, not in an office. When something needs to be right, he’s the one making sure it is.

Ricardo
Operations Manager

Ricardo started working alongside his dad at 14. He grew up learning every part of how a job actually runs — not from a manual, but from the ground up. Today he manages the crews, the schedules, and the daily decisions that keep projects moving.

Peter
Design & Sales

Peter has spent 8 years working in Texas landscaping — long enough to know what grows here, what lasts here, and what clients actually want once a project is finished. He’s the one you’ll talk to first, and he stays involved through the end.

Common Questions

Answered directly.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Fairfield Innovations is fully licensed and carries general liability insurance. We’re happy to provide proof of coverage before any work begins — just ask.

What does your process look like?

We start with a discovery call to understand the project and make sure we’re a good fit. From there, we schedule a site visit — for projects that need a full design, there may be a design fee, which gets applied toward construction if you move forward. Once we’ve seen the space, we put together a detailed quote. After that it’s straightforward: approve it, set a start date, and we build it.

Do you use subcontractors?

Mostly, no — our own crew handles the work. On larger projects we occasionally bring in trusted specialists to keep things moving, but we’re always on site and always accountable for the result.

What areas do you serve?

We primarily work throughout Austin and the surrounding Hill Country — West Austin, Lakeway, Bee Cave, Dripping Springs, and nearby communities. Not sure if you’re in range? Give us a call.

How long does a typical project take?

It depends on scope. A fence or patio cover might take a few days. A full landscape build can run several weeks. We give you a realistic timeline upfront — and we stick to it.

What’s the best time of year to start a project?

In Central Texas, fall and late winter are ideal for planting. Hardscape and structural work like decks, fences, and retaining walls can be done any time of year. If timing matters for your project, we’ll tell you honestly.

If this sounds like the kind of company you want to work with, let’s talk.
